Applications of Bolts and fasteners

Galvanized bolts are considered normal even on expensive boats, although perhaps not the very best. The use of Stainless Steel Fasteners without coating will be a mistake even on a boat that is not designed for long service life.

All of its other types, such as electroplating or spraying, do not last very long in the conditions of corrosion and aggressive environment that surround a small vessel. You can use a galvanized stud with a thread on both sides, screw an a193 b8 nut on one side, and in this way, get bolts of any desired length.

Brass bolts

Brass a193 b16 bolts widely used for a variety of purposes, although brass does not have high strength. Threads are easily cut on a brass rod, the metal is corrosion-resistant, which makes it suitable for building boats.

For cases up to 10 m in size, M10 brass bolts can be used in a wide variety of situations. To fasten the racks, high tensile fasteners will be too good. However, the strength of the M6 will not be enough - they will not withstand strong tightening, and the thread will be broken.

Bronze can be of various grades, of which manganese is the most popular in shipbuilding. Her tensile strength is equivalent to a193 b7 steel and significantly higher than that of phosphor bronze. The combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and the comparative simplicity of its processing make bronze a good material for bolts, although its cost is higher than that of brass. Stainless steel stud bolts are more durable than conventional bolts and are used to secure a variety of stainless steel deck equipment.

Grade 10.9 Hex Bolts

In general terms, it is difficult to talk about the principles of calculating the installation step of bolts, since there are many factors, from the size of the case to the stiffness of the materials being joined. To fix a laminated or mounted frame in a diagonal hull, the 316 stainless steel bolts must be placed in increments of 150 mm for a 10-meter boat and increments of 250 mm for a 17-meter boat.

There are two basic principles for installing something on bolts that are true in all situations:

Install at least three ss 304 bolt on either side of the connection. For example, each corner knit must be fastened with at least three bolts on each side.

Bolts should be kept away from joints with overlays. Otherwise, the grade 8.8 bolts hole can weaken this overlay at the junction of the parts to be joined. An example of such a connection can be a beam, bolted to a plywood masthead bulkhead.

If the bolts passing through the beams are located next to the junction of the two parts, grade 10.9 bolt is loosened in the very place where maximum shear strength is required from it. The distance from the joint to the nearest bolt should be about two-thirds of the usual step.

Wood screws

Steel screws are not used in shipbuilding except in rare cases and only in the galvanized form of ss threaded rod. The standards according to which the galvanic coating is applied are usually very low, so the screws must be dipped in anhydrous lanolin and the head coated with thick grease or carefully painted.
